Quality of mold guide pins is believed to be one of the most common topics of concern to friends in our industry, because quality of mold guide pins will directly affect quality and iteration cycle of our products. If quality of mold guide pins is not up to standard, it will not only cause cost of mold replacement, but also economic costs caused by resulting low efficiency and poor products. So, how to judge quality of mold guide pillars?
Identifying quality of mold guide pillars mainly depends on following aspects:
1. Mold guide pillar product quality: Dimensional stability and conformity of products made from mold, smoothness of product surface, and utilization rate of product material can reflect quality of mold itself.
2. Service life of mold guide pillar: number of working cycles that mold can complete or number of parts produced under premise of ensuring product quality.
3. Use and maintenance of mold guide pillars: whether it is the most convenient to use and whether production auxiliary time can be as short as possible.
4. Maintenance cost and maintenance periodicity: Length of mold guide pillar maintenance period and cost of maintenance are also included in assessment of quality of mold.

1.3 Under normal circumstances, guide posts with a diameter of Ф16 or Φ20 are used. In special circumstances, other specifications can also be used.
1.4. Guide pillars are prevented from being reversed by misalignment or three large and one small, as shown in Figure 2.
1.5. Fixation of inner guide pillar is as shown in Figure 1 (B): its head is usually placed on non-clamping plate. Guide length is generally selected such that effective length of guide pillar when mold is open is 15-25MM.

If you want to extend service life of ordinary standard mold guide posts, improve accuracy, and not damage workpiece, what should you pay attention to when assembling mold accessories?
Guide posts and guide bushes are commonly used guide elements in molds. As guide devices, attention must be paid to them during design and assembly. Guide post and guide bush should be fully closed before punch is working or before press plate contacts workpiece. At this time, it should be ensured that there is a gap of 10-15mm between upper end of guide post and upper surface of upper mold base. After guide posts, guide sleeves are assembled with upper and lower templates, a gap of 2-3mm should be ensured between guide posts and lower plane of lower mold base, upper end of guide sleeve and upper plane of upper mold base.
For workpieces with symmetrical shapes, in order to avoid direction errors caused by mold closing and installation, diameter or position of guide posts on both sides should be different; when die has large lateral pressure. Thrust pads should be installed on mold base to prevent guide sleeves and guide posts from bearing lateral forces; exhaust holes should be opened in guide sleeves to remove air.
Every small detail will affect production, and neither producers nor users can ignore importance of details. Therefore, service life of mold guide pin is determined not only by quality and professionalism of mold parts manufacturer, but also by care of user.
According to statistics, service life of mold guide pin is closely related to use environment. If mold guide pillar can ensure normal lubrication and normal use, service life can reach hundreds of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of times.
