Injection molds generally have domestic molds and foreign molds. Generally, domestic molds have lower requirements and lower prices, while foreign molds have higher requirements and higher prices, so requirements for mold design and manufacturing are very high. Compared with domestic molds, export molds mainly require more and higher requirements, are more complicated, and have high requirements for detail design. Whether it is appearance, strength, standard parts, hot runners, steel, etc. of mold, they are much stricter than domestic molds.

Export molds we are in contact with are generally exported to Japan, Europe, America and other countries. Each country has its own design and manufacturing standards. For example, Japan generally adopts Misumi standard, Europe and United States generally adopt HASCO and DME standards. These are three major standards for export molds. This article takes injection molds for automobile headlights exported to European and American countries as an example to discuss design points of European and American injection molds.
1. Introduction to car lights
Car lights are mainly used for lighting, which can be said to be eyes of car. Car lights are a general term for all car lighting systems. Car lights have high requirements for appearance. Several important parts are transparent parts, electroplated parts, etc. It can be said that parts with the highest requirements for car appearance are car lights, so requirements for mold design and manufacturing are extremely high. Generally, main lighting parts of a car are front and rear headlights. Different car series have different configurations of car lights, same car series also has different configurations based on high and low configurations. Main parts that make up front and rear lights of a car are: left and right lenses, left and right decorative frames, left and right lamp shells, left and right reflectors, etc.

Ranking requirements of mold, front mold is generally inlaid, and rear mold can be inlaid or left as it is.
Because headlight mold has a large drop, for molds with a large drop, try to consider using more straight ejection when designing mold.
Mold hits hole, and insertion hole is easy to wear after a long time. Try to do inserts or pins to facilitate replacement when worn during production.
3. Automobile headlights

Angle of inclined guide column should not exceed 20°, and it should be given priority to remove it from parting surface for easy maintenance. All screws should not be less than M4, usually minimum M8.
Left and right holes of water channel of front and rear molds of headlight mold should be separated and not connected in series, and clearly marked. During production, front 3 and rear 4 mold temperature machines will be used to control front and rear cavities separately. As shown in figure below, temperature difference between cavity and core should not exceed 8 degrees, and water transportation should not exceed 5 degrees.

Hot runner has a separate group of water transportation for cooling, or there needs to be water transportation passing next to hot nozzle to avoid phenomenon of wire drawing and drooling due to poor cooling.
Design of water transportation for headlight mold: Water channel of mold is preferably designed according to shape, water wells and sealing rings are used as little as possible. If water wells are to be designed, each group of water transportation cannot exceed 3 water wells: pay special attention to diameter of water hole cannot be less than 12mm and minimum is 10mm.
Water transportation needs to be designed separately for large area of slider glue position to ensure uniform cooling of slider.
For molds with needle valve hot nozzles, water channel of hot nozzle must be separate and cannot be strung together, and markings must be clear.
Guide column of headlight mold is designed in the front mold, which is convenient for making a stool when flying mold. Four guide columns of mold should be same height.
Guide pin must be 30mm higher than front mold parting surface to protect parting surface.
Lens product materials are different, and requirements for nozzle are also different, as shown in following figure:
